Parent Coaching (Lead Practitioner or Key Worker)
Caring for a child with additional needs can be both rewarding and challenging. It can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate it alone. At Making Sense we offer parent coaching sessions to provide guidance, support and practical strategies to help you confidently navigate your child's development and daily life.
We aim to help you understand your child and give you the practical skills to deal with emotional meltdowns, friendship troubles, difficulty getting ready in the morning, teaching your child to fall and stay asleep, and be independent with toileting and other self-care tasks.
We understand that parents are the experts in knowing their child, so we aim to give you the skills to feel empowered to advocate for your child and make informed decisions about their care.
We can meet with you regularly so that you can have someone that you can trust and turn to for advice and support. Also, we can offer you emotional support and strategies to manage the stress that you may experience. It is important to look at your own self-care.
If you like, we can work with the other therapists in your child's life, so that everyone is working towards the same goals, and arrange a team meeting with other therapists and teachers.
Parent coaching provides practical solutions and emotional support so that you feel confident and equipped to help your child thrive. We can offer these in our clinic at Maylands, at your home or via Zoom.
